44 sports cars, convertibles, coupes, and more from the Dammerman collection up for no-reserve auction in Saratoga Springs next month

The Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs, New York, announced yesterday that 44 vehicles from the personal collection of the late GE executive Dennis Dammerman will be up for sale with no reserve at the Saratoga Auto Auction on September 21 and 22.

Consisting mostly of American convertibles, coupes and sports cars from the mid 20th century, the sale of this private collection is the largest single consignment in the history of the Saratoga Auto Auction. The collection includes vehicles as old as a 1936 Ford Street Rod and as recent as a 2013 Corvette 427 convertible.

The consignment sale of the Dammerman collection will be part of the overall Saratoga Auto Auction event, themed “Celebrating Horsepower” for 2018, in which some 300 vehicles will be up for sale. The event takes place at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center at Saratoga Spa State Park, 110 Avenue of the Pines, Saratoga Springs.

Auction previews will be open on Wednesday September 19 and Thursday September 20, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. The bidder fee is $100, and general admission to the auction is $20 for Friday September 21 or Saturday September 22, or $30 for both days. Bids will be accepted in person, online, or by phone.

This has taken our auction to the next level with the offering of all 44 cars of the Dammerman Collection being offered at no reserve,” said Jeff Whiteside, auction director.

An Iowa native raised in Grand Mound, Dammerman—who passed away at the age of 67 in 2013—was the late vice chairman of General Electric. Mr. Dammerman was 38 when Jack Welch named him GE’s chief financial officer in 1984, the youngest CFO in company history. He held the position until 1998, when he became a Vice Chairman and Executive Officer of GE and Chairman of GE Capital Services, Inc. The same year, CFO Magazine honored Dammerman with its first Life Achievement Award for CFO Excellence.

Dammerman joined GE in 1967, shortly after graduating from the University of Dubuque in his native Iowa. He joined GE’s financial management program and held various financial assignments in several GE businesses. He was appointed to lead GE Capital’s real estate financial services division in 1981, a job he held until Welch named him Senior Vice President-Finance and CFO.

Dammerman was not only a car collector and enthusiast, but a trustee, supporter, and advocate for the museum. In 2009, Dammerman displayed 16 of his vehicles in an exhibit entitled, “Mid Century Marvels.” Now with this generous consignment, the Dammerman Collection sale at the Saratoga Auto Auction will help support the museum’s educational programming, including its Distracted Driving Safety Program.
