10,000 Lakes Concours, set for Sunday, to feature ’35 Duesenberg, ’71 Hemi ’Cuda, a Batmobile, and more

Tickets remain available for the 6th annual 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance, set for Sunday, July 22, on the Excelsior Commons along the shores of Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, Minnesota.

The exhibition of vintage vehicles and competitive show will feature more than 180 rare, historic, and superbly-conditioned cars boats and motorcycles from around the United States, some dating to the early 1900s. Last Friday, event organizers announced several of the entrants for this year’s 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance:

• 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Town Car. Valued at $4.1 million, this vehicle was previously owned by Ethel Mars, who was the second wife of Franklin Clarence Mars, founder of the food company Mars, Incorporated.
• 1916 Oakland V8. The only 1916 Oakland V8 known to still exist, this vehicle has remained in the ownership of one family for 102 years.
• 1971 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda. This historic ’Cuda is one of only 59 produced with a four-speed manual transmission—and it was the only one to roll of the assembly line sporting a black-and-white paint scheme and billboard graphics.
• 1926 Earl C. Barnes custom boat. A rare example of a custom-built boat by top-end boat designer Earl C. Barnes, it was the first that he built after leaving the Merritt Shields Boat Company—and one of only seven of his boats known to still exist.

This year, the 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance incorporates several new features, including a display that illustrates the evolution of sports cars and race cars, including a 1961 Huffaker Formula Jr, a  2015 Ferrari 458, a 2017 Acura NSX, and more examples in between. Guests will also be able to take advantage of photo ops with a mid-1960s Batmobile.

Automotive expert F. Edward Lucas II will be on hand as Master of Ceremonies during the day, introducing each award-winning vehicle as it parades across the stage.

Other attractions include live music, cuisine from local food trucks, beer, wine and Bloody Marys. Local artists and vendors will be on-site, and a Kids Zone will be set up to keep the little ones occupied making crafts while the grownups enjoy the vintage vehicles and festivities.

Tickets for adults are $25 each and available at the event entrance. Admission is free for children 12 and under and for active service members with military ID. For an additional $20.00, guests can enjoy a cruise on Lake Minnetonka in a 1953 26’ Chris-Craft Express Cruiser.

Proceeds from the 6th Annual 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance will benefit Bridging (bridging.org), a nonprofit organization serving the greater Twin Cities that provides donated furniture and household goods to families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
