2019 Mercedes AMG GT S Roadster: Coming soon to a reserved parking space in a medical complex near you

Doctors, top executives, and others with an optimal mix of disposable income, affection for sports cars, and maybe a note of mid-life crisis just for good measure, now have an exciting new option: the new 2019 Mercedes AMG GT S roadster, announced by Mercedes this week—and it is certainly a head-turner.

Boasting a lightweight aluminum 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with an impressive output of 515 hp and a maximum 494 foot-pounds of torque, the new Mercedes AMG GT S roadster is actually an extension of an existing family of Mercedes performance car models. According to Mercedes, the new roadster is the newest of a family of 12 AMG GT siblings, which includes four two-door coupes, three roadsters, two customer sports racing cars and three “four-door coupes.”

“With the AMG GT S Roadster, our AMG GT family has gained another exceptionally sporty member that combines high driving dynamics with an emotional open-air experience,” says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “The new model represents the perfect alternative for the performance-oriented AMG GT Roadster customer.”

According to Mercedes, the AMG GT S roadster is capable clocking in at 3.7-seconds in a 0–60 mph test and can reach a top speed of 192 mph.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster will be available at U.S. dealers by late 2018. Additional details including pricing will be available closer to launch.

For a frame of reference, according to Google, the base price of the current “entry-level” 2018 AMG GT roadster starts at an MSRP of $112,400, while Car and Driver advises buyers to expect a starting price of around $130K.
