Renowned performance-car seating brand Recaro will roll out a special edition Recaro Sportster CS seat next month, inspired by the legendary Nürburgring—the race track that has earned the nickname “Green Hell” for how tragically unforgiving it can be of error as drivers negotiate its harrowing turns through the verdant terrain of Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate.

Production of the seat will be limited to 999 units, Recaro said.

The seat is a special edition of the Sportster CS model which, according to Recaro—arguably the world’s most recognized name in automotive seating—is unique in their lineup because it combines qualities of a classic racing shell with those of a comfortable sports seat.

Recaro Automotive Seating will officially introduce the Sportster CS Limited Edition Nürburgring during the 24 Hours Nürburgring 2019 race (June 20-23). Held annually since 1970, 24 Hours Nürburgring (or ADAC 24h Rennen Nürburgring in German) is an endurance event in which approximately 200 touring cars and GT cars compete.

“It is truly the perfect time for us to create a product that celebrates this legendary race track, and we are excited to unveil it at one of the world’s greatest motorsports events,” says Ulrich J. Severin, head of Recaro Automotive Seating. “In close coordination with the Nürburgring, we developed the idea for an exclusive edition of our successful Sportster CS with a tie-in to the Ring.”

Recaro, a company that constantly emphasizes the importance in performance driving of being “in the seat” rather than on the seat, claims that the Sportster CS “uniquely supports and protects the body by surrounding it like a second skin.”

To integrate a high-performance look into its visual impression, the seat, which is upholstered in leather over a strong but lightweight metal structure and a thin reinforced polymer backrest, features red decorative seams and accent stripes, along with embroidered Recaro and Nürburgring logos on the headrest.

A numbered edition badge documents the seat’s limited-production status.

When it enters the commercial market as a driver and passenger seat after its official debut at 24 Hours Nürburgring, the Recaro Sportster CS Limited Edition Nürburgring will start at a price in the U.S. of $2,450, with orders to be serviced by Recaro North America.

Recaro projects a turnaround time for delivery of 12-14 weeks.
