If you’d like to get an up close and personal look at the Volkswagen electric race car that broke the record time in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last June, here’s your chance. The Volkswagen I.D.R. Pikes Peak is on display now at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, where it will remain until February 1.

Displaying the Volkswagen I.D.R. Pikes Peak is part of the Petersen Museum’s lead-up to an upcoming exhibit, “Driving Toward Tomorrow,” which will open next fall.

In winning the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this year, Volkswagen, with race-car driver Romain Dumas at the wheel, earned the distinction of producing the vehicle that completed the event in the fastest time ever, not only in the electric powertrain category but for any type of automobile.

The automaker also said that exhibition of the I.D.R. Pikes Peak at the Petersen Automotive Museum sets the stage for Volkswagen’s planned U.S. debut in 2020 of an I.D. line of fully electric production vehicles.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to showcase the I.D. R Pikes Peak race car at a world-renowned museum like the Petersen,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “We are excited for members of the public to have a chance to see the record-breaking electric vehicle while it is on display, especially as it leads into the Petersen’s future-of-mobility exhibition.”

The Petersen Automotive Museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard (at Fairfax) in Los Angeles, California, 90036. Admission prices are $16 for general admission adults, $14 for seniors, $11 for children ages 4 to 17. Active military with ID, personal care attendants and children under four are admitted free. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For general information, call 323-930-CARS or visit www.Petersen.org.
